Samuel Adams • Fiery supporter of Liberty. • Active member of Sons of Liberty and created the colony’s first COMMITTEE OF CORRESPONDENCE.
Committees of Correspondence • Formed throughout the colonies as a means of coordinating action against Great Britain. • Many were formed by the legislatures of the respective colonies, others by associations such as the Sons of Liberty in the various colonies. • Members of these organizations represented the leading men of each colony.
John Hancock • A wealthy man, earned reputation of a smuggler of goods. • His ship, Liberty was impounded by customs officials at Boston Harbor, on a charge of running contraband goods. • Led to many actions in Boston against the British, including the Boston Tea Party.
Paul Revere • Silversmith and famous illustrator, whose image of the Boston Massacre became iconic. • His engravings were used by patriots as anti-British propaganda, particularly his famous engraving of the Boston Massacre.
John Adams • Wise advocate of Libertyand member of the First and Second Continental Congress. • Defense attorney for the British soldiers in the trial that followed the Boston Massacre. • Second cousin of Samuel. • Married to Abigail Adams.
Abigail Adams • Supporter of Libertyand strong advocate of women’s rights throughout the colonies. • Wrote many letters to her husband, John, providing political commentary and detailing the Revolution.
