SYSTEM OF RICE INTENSIFICATION (SRI) METHOD -Alsoknown as ‘Medagaskar’ system - 10-12 days old seedlings are transplanted - Flooding of land avoided. A wet and dry cycle is followed at interval to maintain soil moisture - Weed management through harrow /rotavation/ weedicides - Channels are prepared after every 10 to 15 m for drainage - Can be easily adopted in assured irrigated areas in all States

STRATEGY FOR ENHANCING PRODUCTIVITY OF PULSES (i)Targetseed replacement rate from 30 to 35 % (ii) A National Campaign for seed treatment with fungicide and Rhizobium culture (Both liquid and solid base) to enhance productivity by 10 to 15% (iii) Ridge planting in Eastern States and black soils of Southern States (iv) Application of phosphatic fertilizers and need based micro-nutrients i.e boron, zinc and sulphur (v) Minimize losses from pod borer damage through effective IPM (Bio-pesticides/pesticides/inter cropping) (vi) Promote sprinkler irrigation to provide one or two life saving irrigation
STRATEGY FOR QUALITY SEEDS PRODUCTION OF PULSES * Double the quality seed in next 3 years. * Target 30% increase in breeder seed in 2007-08 * Incentives for seed production and distribution to be raised to 50% from 25%. * Involve private sector and extend necessary support for infrastructure for pulses seed production. * Other agencies like NAFED, IFFCO to scale up seed production of pulses.
