  2. Johnson & Johnson has been around for nearly 127 years. Three brothers, Robert Wood Johnson, James Wood Johnson and Edward Mead Johnson in New Brunswick, New Jersey, founded the company in 1886. • Currently Johnson & Johnson has more that 250 companies under their umbrella and are located in 57 countries around the world. Their business is segmented into consumer products, medical devices and diagnostics, and pharmaceuticals. 1886-2013

  3. Since 2008 Johnson & Johnson experienced significant set backs with the recalls of nearly 43 OTC medications. • In 2009 another 8 recalled including Children’s medicines like Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and Zyrtec 2008-2011

  4. Since September of 2009, there have been additional questions about the quality of their over-the-counter (OTC) drugs, and another eight recalls where made. These drugs are a part of a J&J division called McNeil Consumer Healthcare. These recalls included nearly 136 million bottles of children’s • Tylenol, Motrin, Benadryl and Zrytec. Thus, making it the biggest children’s drug recall of all time. The quality issue that found was that the drugs were potentially contaminated with dark particles. The FDA was heavily involved and placed blame on J&J because they failed to catch McNeil’s quality problems. The biggest children’s med recall of all time

  5. Also reported in the article are the disturbing reports of contractors being hired from J&J to secretly buying up the all recalled Motrin by going store to store. This raised concern that J&J was not only produce bad products but also trying to keep it under cover. A major ethical issue

It was estimated that the recall cost J&J nearly $100 million, however it is reported that they have bounced back and their reputation has been restored. • They are still continuing to make progress and from external pressures from the FDA and consumers, they are now making strides to try and remove potentially harmful chemicals from their baby products.
