RA Mission – Our Experience Alex & Lamine, Windhoek, 10 – 13 April 2006
Introduction • Prepare & Deliver Training on BCH • Namibia – Part of the Biosafety Implementation Project • BCH Training – 10 -11th April • Risk Assessment Workshop – 12- 13th April
Preparation • Communication to Contact Point • # of Participants & computers • Access to Training modules • Discussion & Modification of the program • Request for presentation of status of Namibian BCH • Some received
Setting up • Lessons Learned • No back up for computers including UPS, Generator • Power – cut • No opportunity for a dry run
Training Program Program revised to give room for “hands on experience” for the two studies with case studies • Need to review the case studies thoroughly before the training as data keep changing • Complementarity of the team to handle raised questions • Unanticipated “crash” National Choice • Option I plus National Biosafety Web site • BCH seen as an obligation • Need to link BCH to data input and entry to facilitate science based decision making
Training Program • Emphasise “national ownership” • Status of current nBCH & links with current choice • Role of BCH Focal Point critical • Involve stakeholders & principal decision makers (if possible) • Opportunities for “hands on”
RECOMMENDATIONS • Presentation of current status of BCH – a good starting point • Prepare with back up material (software, touchlights etc) • Project Unit – updates case studies • Required materials – available to the countries • Post training mentoring • Need to link the BCH to national/international obligations & role in decision making
