  1. Digital Forensics ABDULAZIZ A. HAMEDA

  2. 1 character 8 bits = 1 byte. One byte = 1 character A

  3. 1 Kilobyte = 1024 characters About ½ a page of A4

  4. 1 Megabyte = 1 million characters About 500 sheets of A4 paper.

  5. 1 Gigabyte = 1 billion characters Pile of papers with a height of 50 metres (About 1000 packs of A4).

  6. 1 Terabyte 1 Terabyte is about the average of a hard drive size at the moment. That is just under 40 km of paper.

  7. 1 Terabyte In another word, it is around 4 sizes of mount Everest + + + =

  8. 4 Terabyte The Terabyte drives are now becoming common; and that is 4 trillion characters. Or it is around 4 million packets of A4 paper, which if put end to end would reach about 200 Kilometers

  9. 200 Kilometres • 200 kilometres is about traveling by car from London to Manchester.

  10. Fact An average person can read and process about 220 words per minute, which is about a Kilobyte of data (1/2 an A4 page).

  11. Therefore Reading two Terabytes of data by a person would take the average of: • 1999999980 minutes. • Or 33333333 hours. • Or 1388888 days. • Or 3805 years.

  12. 3800 years ago The Nordic Bronze age started 3800 years ago.

  13. 6 Terabyte Is a hard disk driver with a 3.5”. This driver became available in January 2015. It costs around £200, if not less.

  14. Fact You could get the whole of the British Library’s current digital media onto two of them. =

  15. Ask yourself - What is the problem? The amount of data we store everyday; and the amount of data that need to be analysed. How many of us has a PC; and how many PCs do we have? How many smartphones do we have? How many data do we store digitally everyday?

  16. Digital Forensics If a criminal or malicious employee stole data from your organisation, would you have the skills to detect it? Could you gather and find the evidence of the malicious activities from a 6 Terabyte hard drive? And how long it will take from you to do so? Can you help the organisations on how to protect their business and mitigate loss? Thus, Digital Forensics helps you implementing a forensic investigation to provide evidence for the courts.
