The Rules of Display • Simplicity: ‘cleanness’ and lack of complication • Simplicity is difficult • Emphasis: the stress or prominence given to an idea, object, or design element. • If all elements are of equal interest, no one of them will receive attention. • Unity: singleness of effect or style, related style, or totality of related parts • Repetition and consistencyare crucial. • Balance: the "weight force" or influence countering the effect of another element in the display • Determining the visual weight of various design elements is difficult.
