Born 1488; Peregrina, Spain One of four to survive the several-hundred strong, Narvaez expedition Worked as Treasurer Documented many tribes of south america Worked for indian rights after his time in the Americas
Narvaez Expedition Royal expedition to occupy Gulf of Mexico led by Panfilo Narvaez Lost half of its men on trip to western Florida Narvaez split the land and sea units and started up the coast Men were starving by Apalachee Bay, but thought allies were nearby Narvaez built rafts in hopes to sail to Mexico, but most were lost on the way Rafts shipwrecked, with less than 10 men remaining
Nunez's Trek Nunez and three others started off for southern Mexico Captured and traded between several tribes Lived among the indians Indians praised his healing abilities Finally returned and met fellow Spaniards in Culican
Most Europeans viewed the Native Americans as savages based on settlement stories they heard, and had no real experiences or even encounters with the indians. Alvar Nunez had a different view because he lived with the American indians for years and took the time to understand their culture and their beliefs.
