  1. Most Popular Car Models Being Targeted By Keyless Entry Systems It seems 21st Century car thieves are using the latest cutting edge innovations, keyless entry systems, to steal the most popular makes and models of cars. According to reports, four of the best selling cars in the country, are some of the cars being targeted by criminals. Those including the Volkswagen Golf, the Nissan Qashqai, the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus are being targeted by inexpensive electronic equipment which may be purchased online.

  2. It is becoming more common for motorists to use the aforementioned keyless entry systems to start their cars if the fob is close by. However, it is possible for car thieves to utilise relay devices to enhance the fob’s signal, causing the car sensors to believe the keyless fob is closer than it actually is. Allowing crooks to unlock and start up a car or van, while the owners still have the fob in their possession. Apparently, a thief can unlock a car, start the engine and drive off in only 18 seconds This only highlights the trouble and inconvenience criminals using keyless fob technology can create. The motoring body known as the ADAC, or the German General Automobile Club, carried out tests on popular models and found over 90% contained flaws in their security. It also ran checks on 237 keyless cars and discovered all but seven were at risk of being unlocked and started.

  3. During the trial, it was revealed only three models of cars, from the Jaguar Land Rover range, were completely safe from being opened up and having their ignition started. The German General Automobile Club also determined in excess of thirty famous brands produced insecure vehicles, ranging from the BMW, the Audi and Honda, to the Volvo, Skoda, Peugeot and Renault, amongst others. Sources also state that, of the five best selling models in the United Kingdom, the Vauxhall Corsa was the only make protected from being stolen with a relay device, as it does not use a keyless entry set up. Many car manufacturers recommend keeping their car fobs in metal cases to protect the signal from being hijacked. There are also instances where, if you own a Peugeot, Mazda or Mercedes, you could deactivate the keyless entry system. These are just a few of the ways in which car manufacturers are taking on the car thieves.
