  7. Introduction to PLUS Who: “We are the PLUS Team. The PLUS stands for Peer Leaders Uniting Students. We are a team up students who make up every style of person on our campus” What: “What we have done is come together as a team to help people develop better understanding as to who each of us is. We do this through activities that create conversation. This Forum is one of those activities Where: “We do this not only on our campus but throughout our district. The goal is to reach as many of us as we can” When: “We do these Forums once a month on our campus” Why: “We do these Forums in an effort to get people to develop an understanding for each other, and who we are. Each one of us brings a separate story to the table, hopefully today we can develop an understanding for each others stories and maybe out of understandings, respect for each other will develop. That will be each one of our choices when this Forum is completed”.

  8. Rules & Expectations “As we engage in the forum today there are a few ground rules we need to be aware of: #1 – There is to be no side-talking in here. With so many people in one room at one time it will be hard to hear across the room. If we are all side-talking to one and another we might miss someone saying something that is important. We are hear to listen to each other today. #2 – We will get your attention throughout the day by a strategy we use called – Clap Once, Clap Twice. When you hear a Peer Leader state “clap once, clap twice”, you clap with them once and then twice. After the 2nd clap that means we need to be quiet and there is to be no talking. Let’s try...Peer Leaders Clap Once.....Clap Twice. #3 - Honesty. We need to be honest today. Make sure that any conversations and thoughts that are brought out today are true and honest. #4 – In being Honest with each other we also need to be respectful. Respect the comments and thoughts of each of us in here. You may not like what you hear from some people, but we must try to understand what experiences that person has had in their life to make them say that. #5 – There will not be any physical or verbal violence. Verbal violence means no foul language, put downs or arguments. Were not here to make anybody feel less of a person, we are here to listen to each other. If you do get emotional over some topics and your emotions get angry, please get up and go talk to an advisor or a PLUS team member. #6 – Everybody needs to keep an open mind today. We need to try to develop an understanding for each other. If we go into this forum without trying to understand each other and the issues at hand, we are going to get nowhere. Are There any Questions?
