Hugo De Backer, KMI, Ringlaan 3, B-1180 Brussels COST 723 MC+WG1 meeting, Bern, 6-7 Oct 2003 Ozone & Radiodsondes at Uccle Ozone Profiles • Time series since 1969 until now • Sonde type: • 1969-March 1997: Brewer-Mast • April 1997 - now: ECC (Ensci 0.5% solution) • Data set homogenised • Altitude range: 0 - ~32km • Vertical resolution: better than 200m • Errors: • 5% in troposphere • 15% near tropopause • 5% at ozone maximum • increasing at higher levels (10-15% at burst level)

Some interruptions (before 1989) Sometimes additional ascents (e.g. summer of 1997, daily) Data were already used for comparison with SAGEII profiles Data available for comparison/validation

Hugo De Backer, KMI, Ringlaan 3, B-1180 Brussels COST 723 MC+WG1 meeting, Bern, 6-7 Oct 2003 Ozone & Radiodsondes at Uccle Radiosondes • Radiosondes measure (vertical resolution ~200m): • Pressure • Temperature • Relative Humidity (in troposphere) • Wind • Soundings performed at 00UT and 12UT (until 31/10/2003, then as ozone soundings (Mo, We and Fr). • Note: Due to restrictions in funding we will have to review our contributions to COST723, especially our plans for participation in WG3.
