  2. Free Write: Writing to Learn “The Argument culture” By: Tannen • In what way does Tannen think “sports and war” metaphors exacerbate the argument culture? Do you agree? Explain your response. • What solution does Tannen propose to end the argument culture? How effective do you think the solution is? • List three controversial topics currently in the news. Then choose one of those topics and explain the two “sides” of this argument. Now, imagine a third point of view. How is it different from the first two positions? Does coming up with a third position help you think creatively about how to resolve dispute. Explain.
