7. Keeping our focus. • For more than 30 years, officers from member districts around the state continue to direct the company. By company charter, 9 of the 13 positions on the board of directors must be filled by officers from the fire districts we insure. With the remaining positions filled by professionals from insurance and other disciplines, FDM has the balance and focus needed to fulfill our mission of providing the best claims service in the industry.

11. Assessable vs. Non-Assessable • If something looks too good to be true…it usually is! Be wary of anyone who promises safety, service and security at unbelievable prices. Many pools and funds have assessable provisions. This means that you may be assessed for any financial deficiencies that fund may develop. • The size and frequency of a pool or fund’s assessments are dependent upon various factors, including ( but not limited to) : ►The quality of the fund’s book of business ► The adequacy of the fund’s loss reserves ►The adequacy of the fund’s reinsurance (if any) ► The quality of the fund’s assets and investments FDM policies are non assessable

Firefighter Injury Reduction InitiativesWorking together to prevent injury to our volunteers. • Health and Safety Officer Training Under Federal OSHA and NYSPESH, fire departments are required to have Safety and Health Officers as an integral part of their operations. Research tells us that effective Health and Safety Officers on the scene make a significant difference in the frequency and severity of injuries experienced by volunteers.

13. Comprehensive Firefighter Injury Reduction Survey and Analysis • A service offered for our customers that have suffered a higher than average number of injuries, this service provides an in depth study to analyze the causes of loss and provides the recommendations and changes needed to prevent these types of injuries in future operations.

Video Safety Library To further promote the goal of safer procedures and practices, FDM maintains a Safety Video Library that deals with the issues we see most frequently or can have the most severe consequences. Click on the on line form to file your initial report. If you prefer, you can print a form to be completed and faxed in.
