  6. 2010-2011 Highlights • Created the Focused Monitoring Module for use by FM teams with guidance docs in password-protected section of the CIMS Web site • Developed “Data Logs” for verifying correction of B-11 (Child Find) and B-12 (Early Childhood Transition) • Integrated the B-13 (Secondary Transition) Checklist – data collection into CIMS • Improved data validation/verification processes • 16 new monitors participated in the New Monitor Mentoring Program • Continued monthly Community of Practice (COP) calls and/or face-to-face meetings • Provided monitor training prior to each cycle 6

Lessons Learned • Keep it simple! • CIMS is working on ways to streamline data collection (e.g., B-3/IEP Implementation) • Keep it in one place • CIMS is integrating with other projects • ISDs and locals need better access to good data • CIMS is looking at ways to improve data reports (e.g., Data Snapshot and Strand Report) • CIMS continues to work with partners to help locals access data • Provide support early and often! 10

OSEP CIV – Compliance • Compliance– CIC will be submitting: • State Monitoring Procedures (most recent version) • Sample of Monitoring Reports (from all systems) • What reports? • Reports issued in the 2009-2010 school year and corrected during the 2010-2011 school year (which will be reported in the February 1, 2012 APR) • Corrective action plans (CAPs) submitted by districts • Documentation supporting verification of correction and State’s analysis and disposition of findings 24

OSEP CIV – Results • Results - Rate of Suspensions/Expulsions as a SMART topic • Statewide importance • Increase in locals identified with significant disproportionality – discipline • High numbers of locals continue to be identified with significant discrepancy in the rate of suspensions/expulsions greater than 10 days • Impact on student outcomes 25

OSEP CIV – Results (cont.) • National relevance • Students with disabilities in New York City are four times more likely to be suspended than their nondisabled peers (1/31/11) • Almost 60 percent of Texas public school students received punishments ranging from expulsion to in-school suspensions of a single period at least once between seventh and 12th grade (7/19/11) • Attorney General Eric Holder and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan announced the creation of the Supportive School Discipline Initiative which aims to support good discipline practices to foster safe and productive learning environments in every classroom (7/21/11) 26
