    1. Introduction Plenary Session on Heavy and Extra-heavy crude oils LACPEC 10 Conference Lima, Dec. 3 - 2010

    2. Outlook Oil demand and supply World oil demand at least in the next two decades is expected to continue to increase at a slow rate, whereas production from conventional light crude oil fields seems to have reached a peak. The decline of production from light crude oil fields will have to be compensated by non-conventional production, mainly from heavy and extra-heavy crude oil fields. Worldwide downstream facilities (pipelines and refineries, in particular) will have to be adapted to changes in oil supply.
