  1. What is the TeraGrid? Technology + Support = Science

  2. TeraGrid Vision • TeraGrid creates integrated, persistent, and pioneering computational resources that significantly improve our nation’s ability and capacity to gain new insights into our most challenging research questions and societal problems. This integrated approach to the scientific workflow includes • Access • Application Development and Execution • Data Analysis • Collaboration • Data Management

  3. TeraGrid PIs By Institution Blue: 10 or more PI’s Red: 5-9 PI’s Yellow: 2-4 PI’s Green: 1 PI TeraGrid PI’s

  4. TeraGrid Resources • Computing - over 650 Tflops today and growing • U Tennesee system to come on-line in 2008 • Centralized help desk for all resource providers • Visualization • Remote visualization servers and software • Data • Allocation of data storage facilities • Over 100 Scientific Data Collections • Human Support • Central point of contact for support of all systems • Advanced Support for TeraGrid Applications (ASTA) • Education and training events and resources • Over 20 Science Gateways

  5. Science Gateways – Portals Tailored to Science Community Needs • Web-based Portals • Application programs running on users' machines accessing services in TeraGrid • Coordinated access points enabling users to move seamlessly between TeraGrid and other grids

  6. Education, Outreach, Training • Annual TeraGrid conference - TeraGrid ‘08 - Las Vegas - June • LRAC/MRAC liaisons • SGW community very successful • Transitioning to consulting model • CI Days - campus outreach • OSG/Internet2/NLR/EDUCAUSE/MSI-CIEC partnership • HPC University • OSG, Shodor, Krell, OSC, NCSI, MSI-CIEC partnership • Education and Outreach • Engaging thousands of people

  7. TeraGrid Objectives • DEEP Science pushing the petascale level • Make science more productive through an integrated set of very-high capability resources which address key challenges prioritized by users • WIDE Impact to empower communities • Bring TeraGrid capabilities to the broad science community by partnering with science community leaders to build “Science Gateways” • OPEN Infrastructure and OPEN Partnerships • Provide a coordinated, general purpose, reliable set of services and resources leveraging partnership with campuses and other high performance computing facilities
