World STI Trends • Growing demand for open and free web access to STI • Discovery and use of STI on ever-increasing use of mobile devices • Navigating complex data resources to meet very specific user needs • Finding relevant, high quality, and trustworthy information sources • Real-time access to full-texts electronic resources • Need for powerful data mining systems and highly aggregated information • Demand for advice combining information professionals and subject specialists • Integration of global scientific and technical information networks • Diminishing availability of financial resources

Impact on the NIS • Organization: full integration of INIS and the IAEA Library • Finances: optimal use of available resources and removal of any duplication • Staff: high level technology savant information professionals • Access: better access to available information resources • Restrictions: unrestricted access to the Agency information sources • IT: powerful computer systems and applications capable of fast data mining and information aggregation • Change management: quick adoption of new technologies and methodologies • Information: integrated cross-department and international networks and partnerships • Cooperation: Strong link between information professionals and subject specialists

Meeting Tomorrow’s Challenges • Use INIS Google-based Collection Search application to integrate other internal and external information resources, databases and networks • Develop data mining and information aggregation applications and capabilities • Improve existing and assist with building new information infrastructure in Member States to support new trends and requirements • Invest in training and development of existing human resources and acquire new talent • Develop channels for easier communication and nuclear information exchange between users, information professionals and subject specialists • Review the coverage of INIS and Library collections to align them with the Agency priorities and world trends
