Pasting Text into a Web Page • Two ways to add text: • Type directly in Expression Web • Paste text from an existing document • Windows Clipboard – a temporary storage area in your computer’s memory. • The page_content div is the main container for your page. Expression Web 3 - Illustrated
Pasting Text into a Web Page (continued) • Things to remember when pasting text from a Word Document: • [Ctrl] [A] - selects all text in a document • [Ctrl] [C] - copies selected text to clipboard • [Ctrl] [V] - pastes copied text into current window • Use the Paste Options button, that appears after pasting, to select how text is formatted. Typing Text and Inserting Symbols • Footer – area at the bottom of each page. • Pipes – vertical lines between words. • Pipes can be used to separate links for text based navigation. • Example: Home | Menu | Live Music | Store Expression Web 3 - Illustrated

Checking Spelling and Using the Thesaurus • Credibility of a Web site is judged on design, content quality, and content accuracy. • The Spelling feature in Expression Web helps identify and correct spelling errors. • The Thesaurus feature provides synonyms of words or phrases. Creating an Internal Link • Hyperlinks or links allow you to surf from one Web site to another or among pages in a single site. • Internal link – links between pages or files within the same Web site. • Source anchor – word, phrase, or image on a Web page that leads to another page or file. • Destination anchor – file or page that opens when a link is clicked. Creating an Internal Link (continued) • A URL defines the location of a file. • Absolute URLs – contain a path that describes the protocol, domain name, and the file path to make up a complete URL. • Example: http://university.com/library/hours.html • Relative URLs – contain a path that describes only the location of the file being linked relative to the source file • Example: ../contact.html Expression Web 3 - Illustrated

Creating an External Link • External link – links to Web pages or files on a different Web site. • Target – the browser window or frame in which the destination file opens. • Internal and External links can contain targets. • Email links cannot contain targets. • Accuracy is important when typing links, one typo can break the link. Creating an E-mail Link • E-mail link – a link that opens an e-mail message in the visitor’s default e-mail program. • Spam – bulk unsolicited e-mail. • Before you put your e-mail address on your Web site, consider the dangers of spammers that search Web sites for e-mail links. Copying and Pasting Content Between Pages • Text that repeats on every page of a Web site can be copied and pasted instead of retyped on each page. Expression Web 3 - Illustrated
