Let’s watch! In our last lesson we learned how to add numbers together. Let’s practice adding 1 to a number. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sxW9gsVWhVA
Adding by 1 is so much fun. Now let’s look at adding by 2’s. Let’s watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&v=D39v6YqeJRA&NR=1
But what if we are adding zero? 5 + 0 =
Now let’s look at adding zero. Let’s watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ikeNNn6m38k
Did you know that 2+1=3 is the same as 1+2=3? 1+2=3 2+1=3
Yes. They both equal the same thing. 3 1+2=3 2+1=3
That is called turn around math. When you switch the places of the two groups you are adding you still get the same answer. 2+3=5 3+2=5
Now let’s watch a video about turn around math. Let’s watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfjXD8skB-0
Also when you are talking about math facts that are equal, you can say 5= 1+4. That is the same things as saying 1+4=5
Are these facts equal? 3+0=3 0+3=3
Yes, they are equal. They both equal 3. 3+0=3 0+3=3
Are these facts equal? 2+2=4 1+3=4
Yes both of these facts equal 4. 2+2=4 1+3=4
Let’s make groups of coins on the document camera. We can see many ways we can make addition facts that are equal.
Now let’s look at a fun addition rock song. Let’s watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auem1DFtDrY
Now let’s look at another fun addition rock song. Let’s watch! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nhp8-Q8xMfo
Using coins or beans and come up with 2 ways you can make addition facts using 5 beans. How can you divide the beans or coins into 2 groups?
Use the 2 circle template I used in my document camera lesson to help you divide your objects.
Good job today! In our next lesson we will look at the numbers 51-60.
