Virtual Learning Environment • All of our materials are available online and work will be stored electronically • You should be able to log on and access ??????? Files and Folders • Course is 99% electronic worksheet to type into • Need to create a folder in your own “Computer” and “Documents” folder called “Computing & IT” • Whenever you save a file please be sure: • You are in your own drive • You go to your Computing & IT folder • Give files a meaningful name • Keep your course folder tidy – more hierarchical sub-folders • Electronic worksheets are in “Pupil Shared P: drive/Coursework/3rd Year/Computing & IT” to Copy and Paste to your own folder drive
Devices You Know • Download the e-worksheet “Devices and Images” • You are to type in a numbered list as many devices as you can name • You are to copy & paste pictures of the devices from the Internet • Insert text boxes to number pictures to match with the numbered devices listed

Device Research Project – Formative Assessment • Look at exemplar projects and sheets (none yet!) • Project Assessment sheet should be used as a Self Assessment checklist for project (final check!) • Your Peer assessor will look at your project/research sheet, tick off what you have done and type comments • Your Teacherwill also check through your work and type in comments • From all the feedback give your own final comment and some next steps skills to develop
30 Years of Computer Specs • Open the “30 Years PC Specs” spreadsheet workbook and scan through the table of data • Notice it is difficult to see patterns and meanings in numbers • Open the “Charts PC Specs TUTORIAL” document, read and work through the steps to create the first chart • After completing the first Chart, complete the others from the questions • Study the graphs and comment on what you think they show
30 Years of Computer Specs – I can… • Choose the correct data range to make a chart • Highlight non-adjacent cells to select the separate data for a chart • Create Line Graphs and a Bar Chart for the data asked • Fully label charts with titles and display each on its own worksheet • Look at data trends on Charts and make statements about them
E-portfolio Blogging • It is your responsibility to record your progress in Computing and IT • Work you complete, things you learn and importantly your next steps should be kept • Your e-portfolio is a blog allowing you to store all this information online as you go • Teachers and Parents can see what you have done and even comment regularly on your progress

Operating System • Access the Operating System e-worksheet • Be aware of the different OS software that run the various devices you use • Research and find out in general terms the jobs that an OS does • Looking at Desktops, Tablets and the Future describe the User Interface and how we interact with our devices
