  1. Dear friends & neighbors: • It’s “turkey time” again! And I am again asking for your help to remember our friend and neighbor John McCarthy, who left us in 2011, by participating in our annual Thanksgiving “turkey cooking marathon” for Fraternite Notre Dame. This was John’s special project each year, and I know he is watching, and how pleased he is that we continue this tradition. • I have told the sisters at FND that our neighborhood can cook and carve 65 turkeys this year. And I am hoping for your help to do this. We will need help with the following tasks: • Cooking turkeys (provided by FND) • Carving the turkeys you cook (if possible) • Joining a turkey “carving party” at my house on Sunday, Nov. 24 • Helping to pick up turkeys and deliver carved turkeys to FND (FND is located in a rough neighborhood – volunteers would be welcome to help me with pickups and deliveries) • FND provides Thanksgiving meals for hundreds of adults, children and seniors through their soup kitchen, after-school program, several city homeless and women’s shelters, and their outreach programs to the sick and elderly in Chicago’s Austin neighborhood. • Thank you all who have helped with this project in past years; I hope you can pitch in again for 2013. All of this activity takes place the weekend before Thanksgiving (starting on Thursday, Nov. 21and ending on Monday, Nov. 25). If you can help, please call me or drop me an email (see info below). I will be in touch with you to arrange pick-up or delivery as soon as we have turkeys in hand. Thank you!! Back then, it was just John and me. Now we have the entire neighborhood involved! If you are unable to participate, but would like to make a small cash donation to help defray the cost of supplies, any contribution is greatly appreciated.
