  2. Transportation Irish people drive on the left side of the road. The Irish use public transportation like buses, trains, taxis, and the subway.

  3. Language 11% of Ireland speaks Gaelic. All children must learn Gaelic. The Irish alphabet has 18 letters. Government workers must know Gaelic. In Gaelic words, emphasis is usually placed on the first syllable.

  4. Government The president is Mary McAleese. The prime minister is Brian Cowen. The Government is split in two. The SeanadEireanh is made up of sixty people.

  5. Food Potatoes are an important staple for the Irish. One dish is a Boxty. It’s like a potato pancake. Another dish is Colcannon. It’s a dish made with mashed potatoes and cabbage (or kale). Barmbrack is a traditional dish served on Halloween. It is a bread made of fruits and spices. Ireland’s national dish is Irish Stew.

  7. Cool Facts Northern Ireland is owned by the UK. Ireland’s symbol is a harp. Many things came from Ireland like Jack-o-lanterns.
