Introduction • WAES3181 is conducted over a semester. • Initial tasks to complete the project such as: • identifying project title, • sourcing for at least three relevant articles • demonstrating mastery of developments tools • Failure to complete the project in one semester will result in the students awarded with an F grade. • The course is conducted by the respective departments. Hence, supervision and assessments are done by members of the department concerned.
Learning Outcomes • At the end of the course, students will be able to: • Analyze problems and produce problem statements. • Identify appropriate solution approach for the problems. • Review literatures related to the problems. • Use appropriate programming languages and/or tools for each solution proposed. • Identify commercialization opportunity for the product to be developed.
Course Outline • Identify a project • Source for a minimum of 3 relevant articles • Write up a proposal • Master the development tools for the project • Design a prototype • Develop the prototype • Write up a report • Present and defend the project in a viva
STUDENT’S ROLES • Register the correct course. • Choose a project title offered by the lecturers of your respective department via Ilmiah system: http://ilmiah.fsktm.um.edu.my/index.php • Meet the lecturer to discuss about the title and make confirmation with the lecturer. (The confirmation is upon agreement between lecture – student) • Attend the Research Method Class (Please check the timetable) • Perform the academic project diligently and report on the work’s progress constantly. (Please meet your supervisor at least once a week.) • Attend the viva session and present your work. • Submit the proposal to the supervisor before the deadline.

Evaluation Methods • Continuous evaluation: 100%. • Academic Project I & II: • Supervisor – Proposal - 40% • Panels - Mastery of Tools/Viva - 60%
Viva • 2 panels (lecturers from your department who are familiar with your topic) will be assigned to evaluate your work. • The schedule of the viva will be prepared by the Coordinator of each dept. • Report/Proposal Each student must prepare a proposal for academic project I which contains at least the following information: • Introduction to relevant project/title. • Statement of problems and the proposed solutions. • Project scope. • Project objectives that could be measured. • Literature reviews where the students should be able to elaborate and make a comparison on the methods/solutions that have been implemented before. • The modules/design/models/algorithms that will be developed in Academic Project II. • References.
Research Method class • A class conducted • to provide a set of guidelines to students. • intends to give some ideas on how to carry out this course. • will be conducted in 7 weeks ( 2 hours per week). • Students are highly recommended to attend this class as it will give as much information as needed.
introduction • In this course, students are required to design and develop a prototype based on the problem and tools that they have identified in AP 1, write a project report, present and defend their project.
Learning outcomes • Depends on your department.
