Project Goals To ask meaningful questions – and do ‘new science’ To retrieve and analyze data from disparate sources in order to address those questions. To produce a controlled vocabulary that can be applied to metamorphic and tectonic processes to assist in the goals above. To develop the infrastructure to serve the data analysis needs of scientists, educators, students, and the general public. www.geongrid.org
Access - To develop databases as few data are currently available in digital format. Visualize - To identify and adapt smart tools for data analysis and presentation and make them widely available. Issues for metamorphic petrology www.geongrid.org
Analyze - To develop access to computational resources for analysis Model - To encourage interactions through GEON to assist in development of tectonic models using petrological as well as other data. Issues for metamorphic petrology www.geongrid.org

Sample ID issues - need a unique ID one sample may have many numbers or names in different publications different researchers may use the same sample number mentioned as a GEON priority PETDB is also working on this issue Issues that need to be addressed www.geongrid.org
Near term Goals • Continue to develop a GIS-like system to relate tabular and spatial data beyond maps. • This can give textural context to published (and other) data, from the mineral and thin section scale to outcrop and regional scale. www.geongrid.org
Near term Goals • Develop a GIS-like system to relate tabular and spatial data beyond maps. • maps integrated with chemical analyses, ages, etc. • hand sample images integrated with SEM images, analyses, x-ray maps, etc. as well as with the geological maps. www.geongrid.org
