What is the IAB? • The Industry Advisory Board (IAB) isa group of volunteer leaders dedicated to: • Serving as a “voice of industry” to IISE’s leadership and the academic community • Enhancing IISE’s image, relevance and value proposition to industrial engineers working in industry • Increasing the awareness and knowledge of the industrial engineering profession and the tremendous value it provides society • Increasing the engagement of IISE’s industry membership (~7k) • Supporting the professional development and career growth of industry members

2015/2016 Initiative – transitioning the student to professional - STATUS • Mentoring Initiative • Grew out of preliminary results of YP Survey • Pairing of IAB members with YP’s during 2016 Annual Conference – Trial Basis • Mentors/mentees have the option of continuing the relationship • Next Step • Survey YP’s to gauge effectiveness and recommendations for full time Mentoring program
IAB YouTube Video Contest • Started in 2009 • Initiative Objectives: • Promote the IE profession to high school students, teachers and guidance counselors • Encourage freshmen enrollment into Industrial Engineering university programs • Increase the engagement of IISE University Chapters • How its done: • Coordinated by IAB YouTube Contest Committee • IISE University Chapters are challenged to create a YouTube video presentation that inform and excites high school students about Industrial Engineering • All submissions are reviewed and judged • Winners are announced at the Annual IISE Conference
IAB YouTube Video Contest • The prize money is raised by donation's from IAB members & several Professional IISE Chapters: • $1,000 for 1st place • $500 for 2ndplace • $300 for 3rdplace • Over 200,000 hits for videos published (as of 3/14/16) • Feedback from numerous University advisors have told us that it is now common to have first year students say they selected IE as a major after finding these YouTube videos • To Date – the IAB has contributed over $15,000 to student IISE chapters – most from fund raising or personal donations of IAB members or local chapters through this initiative.
IAB Recognition & Awards Committee • The IAB group encouraged our IAB members to nominate co-workers for IISE Industry-related Awards • Several Industry-related Awards were identified, and easy to follow instructions were sent out several times during the year • The IAB group was successful this year in increasing the number of Award Nominations from Industry • IAB members worked behind the scenes to support the nominations of industry members and the judging of Industry-related Awards • The IAB sponsors the Middle Career Leadership Award • The IAB initiated the YP Annual Conference Expense Contest for the Conferences in 2016, 2017, 2018
