Emergency Evacuation • When you hear a fire alarm: - Leave the room immediately by the nearest safe exit - Walk, don’t run - Follow the exit signs - Do not use lifts - Do not go back inside the building (for any reason) - Proceed to the assembly area and remain there until the all clear is given - Always follow the instructions given by Staff & Fire Wardens
Earthquake BEFOREan earthquake, identify safe places in your area: • Under tables/desks (remember to hold on to the table legs) • Next to an interior wall • If outside, move to an open space away from buildings, power lines, streetlights etc DURINGan earthquake DROP, COVER & HOLD (Stay away from anything that could fall on you) AFTER an earthquake, follow the directions of Staff & Wardens
Injury Reporting If you injure yourself on campus, practicum or field trip it must be reported: • Obtain a Massey University ‘Accident/Incident’ report form available from your course administrator, the Contact Centre or the Massey University Health & Safety Website • Fill in the form and hand it in to your course administrator Injuries and near misses must be reported so they can be investigated in order to prevent the same thing happening again
Security & Safety • Carry your student ID card on you at all times • Know the location of the help line phones on campus. These can be used to call for police, fire services, ambulance or Campus Security • If you would like Campus Security to escort you to your car, taxi or bus stop after hours, please phone 8015799 ext 62222 or 0800 MASS 50 • Do not allow people you do not know into the buildings after hours; if they are allowed access they should have an access card • If studying/working alone on campus, let someone know you will be working late, the location & the time you expect to finish • When on campus in the evenings, stick to areas that have other people around & that are well lit. If you feel nervous use the buddy system or call Campus Security for assistance • Never leave your valuables unattended • If you have any security questions or concerns contact Campus Security on 8015799 ext 62222 or 0800 MASS 50 (24 hours/7days a week).
