Victims of trafficking are brought to the UK and sold as commodities for the purpose of sexual exploitation, domestic servitude and forced labour. In December 2005 a BBC survey stated that 1 in 10 men purchase sex.
Women are sold for £500 to £8,000. Virtually every country in the world is affected by trafficking for sexual exploitation or forced labour. The majority victims for sex trafficking are from China, South East Asia and Eastern Europe.
The International Labor Organization estimatesworldwidethatthereare 246 million exploitedchildrenagedbetween 5 and 17 involved in prostitution, pornography, the illegal drug trade, the illegal arms trade and otherillicitactivitiesaround the world.
