  4. Types of Clauses • Independent—can stand alone as a complete thought • Dependent/subordinate—cannot stand alone as a sentence because it fails to express a complete thought

What is the adj? • BLONDE---it describes woman • Adjective phrases/clauses describe noun or pronoun • Adj. phrase—the woman with blonde hair • Adj. clause—the woman whohas blonde hair • Adj—a steel bridge • Adj. phrase—a bridge of steel • Adj clause—a bridge thatis made of steel
