Lead Now Program Objective To engage junior high school students in a two year summer program, which provides: • Leadership training • University preparatory courses in math and English • Six college credits toward the Bachelor of Arts/Science degree.
Curriculum First Year • MAT 098 or 099: Mathematics (Based on Placement Test) • RDG 100: Reading • COM 102: Society & Mass Media Second Year • MAT 100 • ENG 099 • COM 105: Speech
Leadership Series: June 25th • “Discover the Leader in You” • Myers-Briggs Typology • Enneagram of the Personality • Emotional Intelligence
Leadership Series: July 2nd • Site visit “Improving Communities”
Leadership Series: July 9th, & 16th • STU Faculty Member • Community Leader • Graduate Student • Alumni
Leadership Series: July 23rd • “Civic Engagement Event”
Leadership Series: July 30th • Concluding ceremony: “Leading my Life”
Application Requirements • A personal essay on “Leadership” • 2.5 Overall G.P.A. • Official high school transcripts • A letter of Recommendation • Accuplacer STU Placement Test • Have completed 11th grade by July 2008 • Complete application form • $350.00 tuition • *Scholarships available/Fee waiver
Measurable learning outcome • College preparatory courses The Basic skill courses are based on passing or failing grades. Students must satisfactorily PASS the basic skill courses • College Credit Courses Students must earn a B or higher in the 3 college credit Courses • E-Portfolio Coordinated in the COM 102 class time, students develop a professional electronic portfolio.
Fernandez Fellowship Program Lead Now graduates who enroll in St. Thomas University will: • Belong to the Fernandez Fellowship Program for four years • Be assigned a professional mentor • Receive Leadership workshops once every academic semester
