1. Students will develop an appreciation for the Adirondacks by reading and discussing the story The Adirondack Kids.
2. Students will be able to locate Adirondack State Park and Fourth Lake on a map in relation to their location.
3. Students will learn more about topics related to the story as they are actively engaged in a WebQuest.
4. Students will create a poster that encourages people to protect the Common Loon.
5. Optional: Students will learn more about mail boats by taking a fieldtrip on a working mail boat on Skaneateles Lake.
Materials • The Adirondack Kids by Justin and Gary Vanriper • Map of New York State • Supplemental Reading Materials such as magazines, books, film related to issues from the story. • Photographs from the Adirondacks: loons, mailbag, lake scenes, etc. • Teacher created WebQuest • Art supplies for creating a poster and picture
