Chapter 4: Congruent Triangles 4.2.1 Apply Congruence and Triangles SWBAT: Define Congruent figures and corresponding parts. Use properties of Congruent figures and prove figures are congruent. You will accomplish this by answering questions on slide 5 and on homework
Congruent Figures • Congruent figures are similar to other congruent shapes, they are not equal • EXACT SIZE AND SHAPE • Individual measures are equal • Known as Corresponding Parts • Given two polygons that are congruent, then corresponding sides and corresponding angles are congruent • Congruent figures are a rotation, translation(left, right, up, or down), reflection, or a combination of these three
Congruent figures Examples A I B J • All Angles and Sides are congruent • Labels must match • For example; Figure ABCD is congruent to Figure IJKL • For a non example; it would be incorrect to say Figure ABCD is congruent to Figure JILK E H F C K D L G
Identify Congruent Parts • Given ABC DEF • Corresponding Angles • B E • A D • C F • Corresponding Sides • AB DE • BC EF • AC DF • Label the Figures B A C E D F
Using the Properties of Congruent Figures • In the Diagram ABCD EFGH B F 12 ft 68⁰ A E (2x – 4) ft 84⁰ 102⁰ 8 ft C G (6y +x)⁰ H D
Homework • P. 228 • 2, 4, 5 – 13 odd, Use the fact that 19 is a rotation and 20 is a reflection to solve, 28
