  2. What is FagEnds? • FagEnds are part of the Tobacco Control Department at The Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation • We are a Stop Smoking Service commissioned by the NHS to provide the service for Liverpool, Knowsley and Halton

  3. A FagEnds Advisor • A FagEnds Advisor is no different to any other Stop Smoking Advisor • We provide a professional service for those who wish to stop smoking

  4. A FagEnds Client • A FagEnds Client is no different to the clients of other service • They are people who want to stop smoking who are looking for help

What might be different about the FagEnds Service • We are a service composed of advisors who are from a mix of backgrounds including lay • We are commissioned by a number of PCT’s to deliver their stop smoking service • We originated from a self help group set up in Liverpool in 1994 • We have maintained a client-led approach

  6. What might be different about the FagEnds Service • The Rolling Programme – The FagEnd’s Model • Clients can attend any of our drop in groups across the city • Liverpool has 63 groups staffed by 14 advisors • Knowsley has 38 staffed by 9 advisors • Halton has 9 staffed by 2 advisors

  8. Maintaining Long Term Relationships • At FagEnds we endeavour to maintain long term relationships with our clients to ensure they can take full advantage of our rolling programme

  12. The impact on the Client • The benefits of maintaining strong relationships is valuable to the client in their quit attempt • If the client relapses they know they can drop in to a group again and carry on with the rolling programme

  17. Benefits for the Service • Using the FagEnd’s Model we have supported numerous clients to achieve success • Their success have made us on one of the top performing smoking cessation services in the country • Clients volunteer to participate in new programmes

  20. Local Paper Mother-of-two Debbie Evans, 42, gave up smoking nine months ago, after her father died of emphysema. The Everton resident said: “I watched my dad die and had to give up for my family. “It is my health I worry about, not money. I was getting far too thin and my size eight clothes were becoming baggy. I am a size 10 now and feel much healthier. “I was helped by the Fag Ends service run by the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and I would recommend it to anybody else who wants to give up.”
