  2. About Tweed Heads • Tweed Heads is located at the mouth of the Tweed River. • The twin towns; Coolangatta and Tweed Heads share a main street that straddles the State Border • Tweed Heads has so much to offer, including some of the best sun bathing, swimming and surfing in Australia

  3. Major Cities • Tweed heads is a 2 hour drive from the Sunshine Coast • And only a 35 minute drive from Surfers Paradise • It is a 85 minute drive from Brisbane • But a 10 hour drive from Sydney

  4. Major Gateways for Transport Networks • There are several different modes of transport that can be used to reach Tweed Heads, which can include flying by aeroplane. • There are a number of different airlines available they include: Jetstar, Virgin Blue, and Tiger, and • They depart from; Sydney, Canberra, Newcastle, Melbourne, Adelaide, Cairns and Townsville to the Gold Coast Airport at Coolangatta, which is a 10 minute drive to Tweed Heads

  5. History in Brief • Timber cutters originally moved to the Tweed Valley in 1844. • After the timber had been cleared, farmers moved in and bananas, sugar cane and dairy farming became prominent as well as a fishing industry developing also.

  6. Economy • Given its closeness to the Gold Coast, Tweed Heads has a shared economy with Coolangatta, which is based heavily on tourism.

  7. Local customs • The Wintersun Festival is a 10 day annual retro nostalgia festival featuring more than 1500 pre-1974 hot rod, classic, and custom cars in driving events and static display.

  8. There will be 100 bands and performers playing Rock and Roll, Rockabilly, Swing, Concept and Tribute. • Performers are from every State in Australia as well as international acts. • Also enjoy market stalls featuring all things retro as well as traditional markets, fairground, Street Parades and lots of family fun.

  9. More than 75,000 people attend this event which has been running since 1988 so put on your dancing shoes, turn the clock and remember when the good times rolled!

  11. Geographical Features Tweed Heads is the most northerly town in the state of New South Wales. Tweed Heads is located next to Coolangatta. Tweed Heads is located within the along the Northern Rivers on the North Coast. Climate The climate is the best in NSW, due to its close proximity to QLD, with summer temperatures averaging at 28*C, and 20*C in winter.

  12. Climate of Tweed Heads • Tweed Heads experiences some of the most pleasant climate in New South Wales • On average 51 days during the summer months are not interrupted by rain. The temperatures of Tweed Heads offer a very moderate year round climate and a very pleasant place to live.

  13. When planning your holiday to Tweed Heads, you can expect exceptional weather, with warm sunny days and cool summer nights perfect for getting out and about, which is what people love to do while on holidays.

  14. Major Geographical Features of Tweed Heads • Mt Warning is a volcano which covered a massive 400 square kilometres and can be found within the Mt Warning national park. Given its name by Captain Cook, it was used as a warning to sailors of the dangerous Point Danger near Tweed Heads.

  15. Mount Warning was added to the World Heritage list in 1975. Mount Warning at the heart of the park, is the remnant central plug of the Tweed shield volcano. • The 'Tweed Caldera' is one of the largest and best examples of an erosion caldera in the world.

Current Health and Safety Issues when visiting Tweed Heads Health Risks • For tourists travelling inbound, may need to receive a Swine Flu injection. • It is also recommended that you receive Hepatitis B & C injections before arriving in Australia. Weather Disasters • The cyclone season is between early December and late March, though may not hit there can be severe storm surges due to these cyclones.

  17. Ross River Fever – is common to the area of Tweed Heads. It is important that you were lose clothing, also that you do not leave doors open especially during the evening, you will also need to regularly check that the fly screens on your windows are on securely.

Dangerous Animals • Snakes – there are also poisoness snakes at and around Tweed Heads, which include both Red Belly Black Snakes and Eastern Brown Snakes. • Spiders – poisoness spiders can also be found in Tweed Heads, the ones to be most cautious of are both the Red Back Spiders and the White Tail Spiders.

  19. When swimming at the beaches at Tweed Heads it is extremely important to swim between the flags, and also be aware of Blue Bottle Jelly Fish.

  20. Also be warned when swimming in the ocean, not to swim with large swarms of Bait Fish because there is a high probability that sharks are hunting them at that time.

Storage of Destination Information There are various ways of storing the information I have collected on this destination which include: • Cards referenced systems • files and notes for specific of customer groups Though the system I have chosen is using both • Files and notes of a particular destination, which is printed out as a hard copy. As well as using • Computerised database of information, which would be using the wiki.

  24. Formal and Informal Research I collected my information using a variety of resources, which were both formal and informal. They include: • Informal discussions with colleagues • Undertaking formal study, both at Tafe and at home • Accessing and reading promotional information, travel guide books, and product brochures, which were done at both Tafe and visiting the Visitor Information Centre • Also I interviewed one of my school teachers (Mr Colberts), whom has first hand experience of living at Tweed Heads, as he previously lived there for 10 years.
