  1. DECOP Windshield Repair Mechanized filling of Syringes for Windshield Chip Repair Jun Kim Jay Lafond Robyn Paul Chris Pho Harhari Sharma ThejasSrinivasan

  2. Contents • Project Background • Functional Objectives • Project Requirements • Concept Generation and Analysis • Concept Generation • Final 4 • Shot Gun • Gripper • Hopper • Moulded Tray • Final Concept • Conclusion – where we’re heading

  3. Project Motivation • DECO Windshield Repair – started in 2005 • Similar concept to other companies • Main difference – reduce amount of theft possible • 1 syringe = 1 fix • Centralized inventory area • Exponential growth in Western Canada has created backlog

  4. Functional Objectives • 1 – Prepare Syringe for Filling • Cap Removal • Re-useability check • 2 – Fill Syringe with Resin • Fill with 0.15mL of resin • 3 – Capping/Ejecting • Replace cap • Remove from system • 4 – Packaging/Labeling • Package in groups of 25 • Label for shipping • Need to optimize process – whether that be 1 or all 4 of objectives

  5. Project Requirements Cost <18¢ / syringe including material and labour <7000$ machine including labour for 1 year Accuracy ±0.01mL or preferably less Speed >900 syringes / hour Reliability 99% reliability of syringe production 96% of availability of machine Compatibility Must be compatible with bridging device

  6. Concept Generation

  7. Concept Generation

  8. Concept #1 – Shot Gun

  9. Concept #2 – Gripper

  10. Concept #3 – Hopper

  11. Concept #4 – Moulded Tray

  12. Top 4 Concept Analysis • Each concept analyzed for the 4 functional objectives • Preparation (lid off, re-useability) • Filling • Ejection (lid on, remove from machine) • Packaging (bags, labeling) • Scale of 0-5, where • 0 = N/A • 1 = Below requirement • 3 = Meets basis requirement • 5 = Exceeds requirement • Each analyzed for requirement • Fulfillment (Fu) • Reliability (R) • Speed (S) • Feasibility (Fe)

  13. Final Concept

  14. Where we’re headed • Syringe / resin junction • how to ensure reliability? • Modularity • prevent complete system failure • Cap removal and replacement? • Force analysis • how much force required to pull 25 syringes? • Risk analysis
