Objectives since 1948 • Defending and promotingpress freedomand theeconomic independenceof newspapers as an essential condition for that freedom. • Contributing to the development of newspaper publishing byfostering communications and contactsbetween newspaper executives. • Promoting co-operationbetween its member organizations, whether national, regional or worldwide.
Activity Areas • Training & Events Division • Help newspapers increase readership and sustain and increase advertising and other revenues through study tours, seminars, publications and so on. • World Editors Forum • Provide opportunities for senior news executives to exchange ideas and information about the business of editing newspapers.
Activity Areas • Fund for Press Freedom Development • Promote the growth of free and independent newspapers in developing countries through training and other forms of assistance.
Young Reader Committee • Founded in 1991 • Members are publishers, NIE or Young Reader coordinators and others with NIE interests • The Committee seeks to: • - determine how ideas can be applied to • different countries and cultures • - ensure that all NIE initiatives have educational validity • - coordinate young reader and NIE activities internationally
