  3. 1 WawasanLearn What is WawasanLearn? • WOU’s Learning Management System (LMS). • Provides you with supplementary learning resources and activities related to your course(s). ORIENTATION—JULY 2012—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  4. 1 WawasanLearn Why is WawasanLearn Important? • Contains supplementary course materials. For example, multimedia and PowerPoint files for you to view or download. • Enables you to participate in online discussions: • group discussions with other students. • public discussion with your Course Coordinator, Tutor and other students. • Contains softcopy of your Tutor Marked Assignments (TMAs). • Connects you to the University’s online services including Online Assignment Submission System.   5. 2 The New WawasanLearn Attention for previous students, the new WawasanLearn has new features in terms of: a) Site/Course Layout – Now, the site/course are using a 2-pane format giving a more simplified look compared to the previous version that has standard 3-pane look.   7. 2 The New WawasanLearn Attention for previous students, the new WawasanLearn has new features in terms of: c) 2 attachments per forum post for all users. This gives the users the capability to attach 2 files for comparison a discussion forums. d) Separation between the site page (site home) and course news/activities (my home). By using the navigation block allows easy access for the site home and all course(s). Instead of frequently using the browser’s “Back” and “Forward” button, use the navigation block to navigate the entire site. ORIENTATION—JULY 2012—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

There are: • 1 section on Announcements • 1 section on Guides for Turnitin, • 1 section on Guides for Online Assignment Submission(OAS) • 1 section on Online Forums • 5 sections on 5 Tutorials (For 5 credit hour courses) or • 10 sections on 10 Tutorials (For 10 credit hour courses) ORIENTATION—JULY 2012—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  22. 3 WawasanLearn Course Page Features G) Forums Forum serves as an important and collaborative learning methods that allows you to participate in course related discussions with your Course Coordinator, Tutor and fellow students. Student’s role: • Participate in online discussions with course coordinator, tutor and fellow students • Participate actively in the Tutorial Forum instead of the Public Forum. The Public Forum is used to discuss a wider range of topics and may not be specific to your tutorial groups’ needs. • Upload and share resources or useful links. • Post the queries on the appropriate forum: • TMAs queries and course specific queries should be posted on the tutorial forums • general/generic queries should be posted on the public forum All forum posts are editable within 30 minutes of the posting

  25. 3 WawasanLearn Course Page Features Individually marking each post I) Marking Forum Posts By using this function, you can separately mark each post that have been read. Please ensure that you click ‘Mark Read’ link after you have read the post ORIENTATION—JULY 2012—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  26. 3 WawasanLearn Course Page Features Automatically mark on all posts I) Marking Forum Posts By clicking the “check-mark” icon, ALL unread postings can automatically be marked. Now, you have no more unread posts. ORIENTATION—JULY 2012—PG,IP,KL,JB,KC

  27. 3 WawasanLearn Course Page Features I) Marking Forum Posts Difference between the options • For Individually mark on each post option, if you fail to click the ‘Mark Read’ link, you will keep seeing the unread posts even though you have viewed them. • For Automatically mark on all posts option, the “Unread” indicator will automatically disappear after clicking the “check-mark” icon. Use this button to attach a file (if any) from your computer. See how to attach 4. Use this button to post to forum Upon posting, you are ONLY allow to edit the posting within the first 30 minutes.
