Safety Committees What does a Safety Committee do? Helps the administrator by: Assisting in identifying hazards Meeting regularly to review accidents and losses
Safety Committees What does a Safety Committee do? Making recommendations to correct hazards and prevent future losses Facilitating an effective safety culture
Safety Committees Identifying Hazards: • Periodic inspections • Look for hazards and unsafe conditions • What might cause an accident? • What might be a security risk?
Safety Committees Review Loss Data: • What has caused an accident/loss? • How could it have been prevented? • Identify trends and patterns

Safety Committees Reporting accidents and losses: Employee injuries: • State law requires notice to principal/manager within 15 days • Notice of Accident must be completed and submitted to supervisor
Safety Committees Reporting accidents and losses: Student injuries: Accident form to be completed following: • Medication error - Copy also goes to Nursing Services • Emergency call - 911 - life threatening situation • Further medical care recommended • Sustains head injury (e.g., blows to the head, whip lash, injuries around eye socket, or any other questionable injury to the head which in the opinion of the Nurse/Health Assistant warrants documentation) • Faulty equipment or unsafe condition existed
