The Mosquito Life Cycle By Miss Girling and Miss Saraco
The Life Cycle There are 4 main stages. These stages are called: Eggs Larvae Pupae Adult
The First Stage - Eggs • In the first stage, the adult female mosquito lays her eggs into the water e.g. pond, bird bath, river, lake
The Second Stage - Larvae • In the second stage, the larvae live on the top of the water their egg was laid in. They spend most of their time feeding on algae and bacteria. At the end of this stage, the larvae sheds its skin so it can grow even more
The Third Stage - Pupae • In the third stage, the pupa lives still in the water area it was born in. It has grown more at this stage. They do not feed on anything. After a few days they emerge from the water as an adult mosquito
The Fourth Stage - Adult • When the mosquito reaches the 4th stage, it is now an adult. After a few days of being an adult, they mate and the female lays her eggs, starting the cycle again. Most mosquitos live for 1-2 weeks.
