Pollution types- point source • Point source pollution = source of pollution is known and identifiable. • Real life examples= toxic effluents from a factory, agricultural run-off. Effluents= chemicals or fluid that flows out
Pollution types- nonpoint source • Nonpoint source pollution = source of pollution is too widespread to identify or blame • Real life examples= urban run-off from roads and parking lots, neighborhood run-off from storm drains, sewage leaks such as pig waste or pesticides, and overfishingfrom fisheries.
Ways to correct- nature Water is recycled through the water cycle. Water is filtered through percolation. This method is mostly effective but time consuming.
Ways to correct- Legislation • There are many laws that impact water quality on federal, state and municipal books. • Two most important- Clean Water Act (1972) and Safe Drinking Act (1974)

Ways to correct-stewardship • Stewardship = to protect the environment • Ways to be a good steward: • Conservation of resources • Clean up of polluted areas • Establishment of nature preserves and wildlife areas
Water Treatment • Water treatment plants = where they filter, remove, and chemically sanitizewater to provide drinkable water.
