The Battle of Palo Alto By: Kyle and Evan
President Polk couldn’t buy California so he tried to take it by force. He might have set up forts like Fort Texas which led to the battle of Palo Alto.
Facts • War was fought at Palo Alto in 1846. • American General Taylor first built Fort Texas near the Mexicans land. • Mexican General Arista countered this move by deploying more troops then the Americans had. • Taylor escaped this near battle by retreating back to Fort Polk for reinforcements. • When the Americans were heading back, Arista cut them off at Palo Alto and there they had an all out battle.
Conclusion • In the end they fought for many hours and Taylor ended up on top. Arista lost between 250-400 men, almost double the amount of Taylor’s losses.
Our opinion on this event is… • The battle might have been unfair in strength, but it was good because America gained more power over Mexico.
Our opinion on Manifest Destiny is... • It was unrightful to take the land saying God told them to but it led to the U.S. today.
