ASPP All Society Periodicals Package Review of Database for ECE, ME & EE lecturers
What does the Librarycurrently hold? IEEE/IEE Electronic Library • Full text of journals, conferences and standards from :- the Institution of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (USA) and- the Institute of Electrical Engineers (UK) from 1988. • Monthly updates.
Some setbacks • CD-ROM database • No remote access. The access is from a standalone PC in the E-resource Room, 3rd floor of the Library.
Some considerations…. • IEL PricingCurrent : S$86,573There is a 25% increase = S$108,000 • Cheaper alternative :ASPP = S$53,757 for 5 simultaneous access( 50% less than IEL increased pricing ) • Based on the average usage of 157 per month during term time, the cost per search after the increase will be about $57/- per search. • Too high to warrant paying for IEL subscription
Coverage of ASPP • The All-Society Periodicals Package (ASPP) Online includes 112 journals, transactions and magazines. • Includes backfile to 1998. • ASPP Online Includes: • 67 IEEE Transactions • 9 IEEE Journals • 31 IEEE Magazines • 6 IEEE Letters • ASPP does not contain any IEE materials
What’s missing …… • The only IEEE periodicals not included in ASPP are: • IEEE Spectrum • Proceedings of the IEEE • Potentials Magazine • Canadian Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering • Journal of Electronic Materials (also not available in IEL Online) • Electrochemical and Solid-State Letters • The Institute Newspaper • Engineering Management Review
What’s missing …… The Library has 44 IEEE print titles & 14 IEE titles. ASPP covers only the fulltext of IEEE journals. For titles such as: IEEE Spectrum; Proceedings of the IEEE; IEE News; Software, IEE Proceedings; Vision, image & signal processing, IEE proceedings; etc >> Search OPAC for library holdings.
