Social Issue: Women’s Rights • Discrimination against women’s voting rights, education, and personal security. • Socio-beliefs on women’s education being unnecessary and dangerous. • Only 12.6% of women in Afghanistan are educated. • Estimated 1 million extremely poor Afghan widowed women. • 50% of children under 5 suffer from malnutrition
Why Where They Poor? • Lack of resources. • Limited arable (able to grow crops) land. • Rain and precipitation is rare. • Illiteracy of men and women is very low (about 90% of women, 63% of men are illiterate). • Income depends on agricultural activities (ex. farming, selling crops). • Lack of infrastructure materials. • CORRUPT GOVERNMENT!!!!
Economical Issues • Average GDP of the nation is about $400-$800 per capita. • Lots of money sponsored from external nations/organizations (over $50 billion) were too heavily spent to pay for war debts. • The country was under Taliban rule from 1996 to 2001. They were extremely corrupt.
