  1. Fully accessible Images Working with tactile graphics and IVEO ICEVI Dublin, 2009 Viewplus - Dorine in ‘t Veld

  2. Fully acessible images • Outline • Importance of tactile images • Conditions to use tactile images • Inclusive education • IVEO Hands On Learning System • Use for now (and future) • Demonstrations

  3. Importance of Tactile Images Words are incapable of specifying the object’s: • Shapes • Dimensions • Orientation • Proportions

  4. Importance of Tactile Images Models • Often are only in one place and not transportable • When they are not at hand you need an image to refresh your memory • Can be complex; in which case an image can help structuralizing and clarifying • Are much less flexible in the choice of the amount of detail displayed (once made it is impossible to make changes)

  5. Importance of Tactile Images • A help to structuralize and to learn • Understanding of ‘the world around’ • Communication • Chances for proper and ‘fitting’ education & work • Accessibility of all disciplines • Math and science • Arts

  6. Conditions to use Tactile Images • Reader is trained to read tactile images • The image is fun and not a source of frustration • Of course: the subject and complexity match the development of the student • Images are ‘well made’

  7. 3 D = from side, front, above

  8. Conditions to use Tactile Images • Teacher and sighted students can use it too • If not, in daily life, even well made tactile images are not used • It is better to have a less perfect image with a good explanation than the other way around

  9. Inclusive education

  10. IVEO Hands-On Learning • Utilizes SVG technology to enhance accessibility • Easily convert graphics to SVG format with IVEO Convertor • Zoom in and out without losing detail! - Two levels of spoken information - Link files & sounds - Learn with touch, sound & sight - Zooming Capability

  11. Basic Use of IVEO Demonstration • Touch graphic to hear title • Ctrl+D to play description • Zoom to get more or less detail • Find Feature • Alt + Enter to add info • Add overlays

  12. Create with IVEO Demonstration • Simple example of how to draw a classroom

  13. Recap • Tactile Images = >equal chances • Tiger Technology => inclusive products • IVEO allows • Independent working & cooperation • Interactive working • Training IT skills • Fun
