RTPP What’s CoderDojo? • CoderDojo all started in James Whelton’s school in Cork in early 2011 • Volunteer-led clubs for kids between 7 and 17 can discover how to code • As of Oct 2015, there’s over 750 verified CoderDojos in 50 countries!
RTPP What’s the cost? • CoderDojo is organised and run by volunteers and everyone gives their time for free
RTPP Responsibilities? • The Mentors and our Support team give their time for our CoderDojo for free • There’s a waiting-list already open for this CoderDojo, so demand is high • If you can’t be responsible, attend regularly, or if you cause trouble, then there are others who will be asked to join in your place
RTPP One Rule - Be COOL!
RTPP Supervision, young kids Parents must stay • Parents must be present at all times, no exceptions please. • Parents are also encouraged to participate, encourage, and learn with their kids too
RTPP Our Technology? • We’ll start off with Scratch 2.0, which is a great app to start learning how to code • We’ll progress to more complex coding in Node.js, Java, HTML, Raspberry Pi, • We’ll use Bluemix if requested / good fit
RTPP For parents No heat – bring a sweater! • Please have 1 Laptop for each child, but 2 kids can share 1 laptop for a while too • Please sign-up for each session individually on the CoderDojo zen • Please complete both on-line forms (only need to do this once) • You don’t need to come every session, come when you can • Scratch 2.0, Python and HTML can be run on most basic, low-spec laptops • Internet access for Scratch on-line, Bluemix, and website development
RTPP • STEP ONE Introduction (Scratch 2.0) • STEP TWO Set lots of Fun Challenges • STEP THREE Present and Awards
