Prepositional phrase • Starts with a preposition and ends with a noun called the object of the preposition • The ladybug is going to hide in the mailbox.
Prepositions as ADVERBS • Prepositions that tell how, when, where, or to what extent something is being done function as ADVERBS. • Example: He threw up. She walked out (of the room). Please sit down.
Infinitive • The word “to” is not always a preposition. It can also be part of an infinitive phrase. An infinitive phrase includes a verb, but it does not function as a verb in the sentence. • Examples: I want to readThe Giver. She likes to dance at parties. He tried to see if it had any flaws.
Put parentheses around all prep. phrases, label the object of the preposition, draw a line through infinitives, underline verb phrase twice and subject once. • 1. The students in the class are trying to learn about their ancestors for the essay. • 2. Future generations will be able to learn about the past from the students’ projects.
