  2. Bellwork 9/25/12 • Pick a quote about Martha from “Love”. Write it down (cite the pg. number). • What can we infer about Martha from this quote?

  3. “TTTC” Discussion • What they carried—figurative • “Grief, terror, love, longing… shameful memories” pg. 20 • Carried soldier’s greatest fear…the fear of blushing” pg. 20 • Escapism—what did they do to literally escape the war? • More of Jimmy and Martha: • What is the significance of Jimmy burning Martha’s letters? • Add to the character chart: Collective “They”

  4. “Love”—Discussion • Who is the new character we meet? • What details do we learn about Martha? • What can we infer from this? (point to the text) • Do you think Jimmy has any newfound insights into Martha? What are they? (point to the text) • At the end of “Spin” Jimmy says, “…do me a favor. Don’t mention anything about—.”I • What do you think this is? • Do you think O’Brien honored this request? • Style • Point of view—what is its effect? • Did you notice any literary devices being used?

  5. Homework • Read “Spin” and be ready to discuss tomorrow. • Answer questions on green or white half sheet of paper (due Thursday). • Character chart is due Thursday • Work on Senior Proposal—due Thursday • No name; just student ID.
