Sociocultural psychologists also study the impact and integration of the millions of immigrants who come to the U.S. each year. • *Ethnicity, gender, culture, and socioeconomic status influence our behavior. • *Two Sociocultural Psychologists: • - Leonard Doob illustrated the cultural implications of a simple, reflexive behavior, a sneeze. Questioning what the person would do if they had to urge to sneeze. What they would say or others around would say. • - Lev Vygotsky suggests that social interaction leads to continuous step-by-step changes in children’s thought and behavior that can vary greatly from culture to culture. He argues that a child’s development cannot be understood by a study of the individual. We must also examine the external social world in which that individual life has developed.
- Positive: Putting yourself in others position to see what their life is like before judging them.
- Could get a reputation of being a racist if they don’t acknowledge a person from a different race.
