2. Who are the band member and what instruments do Green Day use? • The band members are Billy Joe Armstrong, who sings, plays guitar, piano and the harmonica • Mike Dirnt plays bass and is a backing vocalist for Green Day • Tre Cool who does drums, percussion and is also backing vocalist

3. Where and when did Green Day start? Green Day was formed in 1987. They became part of the punk scene at 924 Gilman Street in Berkeley, California.

4. What types of music do Green Day play? Green Day mostly play punk, rock and pop music. Stephen Erlewine of Allmusic described Green Days music as “punk revivalists who recharged the energy of speedy, catchy three-chord punk-pop songs.”

5. What makes Green Day so popular? Green Day’s first album ‘Dookie’ eventually sold over 10 million copies in the US. Their other albums, ‘Insomniac’ and ‘Nimrod’, reached double platinum and ‘Warning’ reached gold status. They have won five Grammy awards: Best Alternative Album for ‘Dookie’, Best Rock Album for ‘American Idiot’, Record of the Year for “Boulevard of Broken Dreams”, Best Rock Album a second time for ‘21st Century Breakdown’ and Best Musical Sow Album for ‘American Idiot: The Original Broardway Cast Recording
