  1. Welcome!! to Mrs. Jessen’s Language Arts Class Where anything can happen and often does.

  2. On Your Piece of Paper • Write your name in large, creative letters in the middle of the page • In the top left corner, finish the sentence "My family…” • In the top right corner, finish the sentence "My favorite thing to do is....“

  3. On Your Piece of Paper • In the bottom left corner finish the sentence "I really don't like....“ • In the bottom right corner finish the sentence "Other people find me...." • In the top middle finish the sentence "One day I'd love to.....“ • In the bottom middle finish the sentence and "I'd love to meet...."

  4. 9/5 and 9/6: Writing about writing • What are your feelings about writing? • What’s the most difficult part of writing? Why? • What’s the most enjoyable part of writing? Why? • Compare school writing to personal writing: How are they different? • How did you learn to write? • What type of writing do you prefer? • What’s your most memorable writing experience? • If you taught writing, how would you do it?

  6. 9/10-9/11- Learning Target: I will own this place • Finish previous work • Group Stories • Read Stories to class • Work on Classroom Norms • In table groups identify “Rules of the Road” for our class • Set Up Interactive Notebooks

  7. 9/12-9/13- Learning Target: I will own this place • Decorate Interactive Notebooks • Finish Working on Class Norms • Post Norms in class • Story Starter: • “Dread filled my heart; it was Friday the 13th again.” • Due Tuesday, 9/17-Wednesday, 9/18

  8. 9/16- Learning Target: I will own this place • Introduce Seating Chart • Pull out your Interactive Notebook. Under Vocabulary (p.4,Table of Contents) • Top of Page 4: “Prefix: anti: Definition: against” • Define and use in a sentence: • antiaircraft • antibiotic • antidote • antifreeze • antiseptic • antisocial • Work on Story due Wednesday (if you have not already put this in your planner, please do)

  9. 9/17-9/18: Learning Target: I’ve got it together and I’m taking it on the road • Due: Friday 13th Story • Interactive Notebook: Work on Vocabulary • Class Story: The Lie, by Kurt Vonnegut , Jr. page, 29, • Discuss question on page 29 with table group, and share out with the class • In your Interactive Notebook, • page 70, Write “Story Response” • p. 71, Summarize the story • P. 72 , write the questions from Page. 41, 1-6 and their answers.

Explain “(1 typed page, min) • Missing Work? • Grades are in the grade book; Are you missing work? Do you need to turn something in?
