  2. Did You Know? • In 1988 our student enrollment was 2944 • In 1998 our student enrollment was 4033 • Today, our enrollment is 4813

  3. Did You Know? • Of our 4813 students, • 94 % are Caucasian • 2.0% are African-American • 2.5% are Hispanic • 1.2 % are Asian-American • 0.3% are Indian

  4. Did You Know? • We have 215 students identified as gifted • We have 522 identified with special needs • We have 27 ESL students across 5 buildings • We have 54 students who receive alternate education services from CIU 20 and other agencies

  5. Did You Know? • 7.2 % of our students are economically disadvantaged • 6.8% live in single-parent households

  6. Did You Know? • This past summer: • 187 students participated in summer school programs 47 at the high school 8 at the middle school 101 at the elementary schools (reading – K-3) 31 at the elementary schools (math - 3-5)

  7. Did You Know? • 115 students completed 167 AP exams last year in 14 different subject areas • 259 students took the SAT last year • State SAT average: 494 (reading) and 501 (math) • Our SAT average: 510 (reading) and 520 (math)

  11. Did You Know? • In 2007-2008 we had 90% of students indicate they plan to pursue post-secondary education • 35% planned to attend a 2-year institution • 52% planned to attend a 4-year institution • 3% are entering other schools

  12. Did You Know? • In 2007-08: • 1255 students participated in athletic programs • 154 students participated in football • 63 students participated in wrestling • 116 students participated in basketball • 48 students participated in cheerleading

  13. Did You Know? • In 2007-08: • 73 students participated in field hockey • 115 students participated in soccer • 70 students participated in cross-country • 51 participated in swimming • 40 participated in tennis • 80 participated in lacrosse

  15. Did You Know? • Last year the Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team won the District III AAA Championship

  16. Did You Know? • There were 20,664 student contacts last year for acute illness • There were 13,362 contacts for acute injury • School nurses completed 12,523 screenings for vision, hearing, scoliosis, height and weight

  17. Did You Know? • Last year 3,107 students were sent home for health reasons (down 474 from last year) • 9,874 individual medications were administered (down 523 from last year)

  18. Did You Know? • Last year school psychologists completed: • 76 initial evaluations for special needs students • 174 re-evaluations for special needs students • 42 evaluations for gifted students

  19. Did You Know? • The Middle School Guidance Department oversaw the Peer Tutoring Program last year.   • 56 students received tutoring by their fellow classmates in Math and Language Arts.

  20. Did You Know? • The technology department supports more than 2500 computers district-wide • The district web site averages 1500 visits every day • Over the last 2 years the department has applied for more than $1,000,000 in technology grants and received almost $600,000 in grant funding

  21. Did You Know? • Last year the cafeteria staff served 454, 574 meals, averaging 2,690 per day. The staff also catered 218 events (more than one per school calendar day) and served 10 sports banquets. • The department is self-sufficient, and does not take funds from the general budget.

  22. Did You Know? • We have 355 teachers (245 female/110 male) • 24 have less than a year of experience • 213 have 2 to 10 years of experience • 67 have 11 to 20 years of experience • 26 have 21 to 30 years of experience • 25 have over 30 years of experience

Did You Know? • In 1940, the Nazareth Borough School District consisted of 4 schools: 3 elementary schools (grades 1-6), plus the high school (grades 7-12). • There were 51 professional staff members • The annual instructional costs per student were $63.54 (elementary) and $95.47 (high school) • The total budget for the district was $144,235
