What Happens When You Have a Mammogram. 1. Check in at welcome desk. 2. Fill out a simple health questionnaire. 3. You may have to wait 5 or 10 minutes THEN . You will be taken to a private area to undress. 4. You will be asked to remove your clothing from the waist up.

3. You may have to wait 5 or 10 minutes THEN You will be taken to a private area to undress
4. You will be asked to remove your clothing from the waist up Tip: Wear a two-piece outfit
5. You will be asked to remove any deodorant, powders or perfume You may be given a cloth to wipe yourself
6. You can use a piece of your clothing to cover yourself while you wait You may be given a gown, if needed
7. The technologist will ask you some breast-related questions The technologist takes the x-rays
This is a mammogram (x-ray) machine This part comes down to compress (squeeze) your breast Your breast is placed here The x-ray film is placed here
8. The technologist positions your breast on the machine She will compress the breast (a few seconds) while she takes the x-ray While compressed, your breast will feel tight and uncomfortable
She takes two x-rays ofeach breast - top to bottom and side to side This will take about 2 to 3 minutes
9. The technologist will let you know when she is finished If further testing is needed, SMPBC has a Fast Track system in place The results will be mailed to you and your doctor within 2 weeks
